When you’re feeling sad and lonely…

“Invictus” (Latin for Unconquered), a short verse by the English poet William Ernest Henley (1849-1903), was written in 1875 and first published in 1888. Nelson Mandela had the poem written on a scrap of paper in his prison cell while he was incarcerated on Robben Island. When despondent he would recite Invictus to himself for strength.
